Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Check Your GFCI Outlets
In Florida homes, bathroom, kitchen, garage, and outdoor outlets are often connected to a single GFCI outlet. If that GFCI tripped, all connected outlets go dead.
Action: Find the GFCI outlet (usually in the bathroom or kitchen) and press RESET.
Check Your Breaker Panel
Look for a breaker in the middle position (tripped). Flip it fully OFF, then back ON.
Test the Outlet
Use a lamp or phone charger to test. If it works after resetting the GFCI or breaker, you are done.
If Nothing Works — Call Ocean Wire Electric
A dead outlet with no tripped GFCI or breaker indicates a loose wire connection inside the outlet or junction box. This requires professional repair.
When a Dead Outlet Is Dangerous
Call us immediately if:
- The outlet has burn marks or discoloration
- You smell burning near the outlet
- The outlet is warm to the touch
- Multiple outlets on the same wall are dead
These signs indicate a wiring fault that can cause a fire inside your walls.
